OOTD: Lions, Leather, and Chinatown

By  |

For this OOTD I had so much fun! My style is normally swanky, but for this look I opted on swankster (swanky with a hint of an edge). I wanted to be comfortable for a trip to Chinatown as well as funky for all that the area normally has to offer.

I’ve been meaning to check out Chinatown in downtown Honolulu, Hawaii and although I was pleased, I was extremely shocked at how many homeless people I saw there. I’m definitely making a trip back to bless them with baggies put together by our couples bible study group, which we filled with canned food, travel toiletries, and some neat little notes full of love and inspiring scripture. With the holidays around the corner I’m sure they will appreciate it–plus I love to spread some cheer!

So something else you should know about me, when I find accessories I like (that includes handbags and jewelry)–I usually stick to the same ones for a while. One item in particular that I was looking to add to my repertoire was a chunky gold necklace. Every time I went shopping I eyed this gold Lauren by Ralph Lauren chunky chain. Hubster would always catch me staring it down, would pick it up to purchase, and I would snatch it to place back. Needless to say, he won the snatch-o-war. But I can’t help it that I’m a swanky budgetnista and a very savvy shopper at that. When I saw an array of similar fun options at Forever 21, H&M, and Dorothy Perkins for a fraction of the cost, it reminded me why I was declining that purchase to begin with. I’ve learned it all depends on the need, the item, and the brand in order to conclude if it’s a worthy price tag. Either way, I love it (he knows it) and I can’t get enough of it! Swanky approved!

I’d been craving for a pair of simple nude ankle strap sandals for a while when I unexpectedly came across a store called Local Fever here at the outlets in Waikele. They had a huge sale going on and of course I had to go check out the shoe display which was so conveniently located outside. My search was over and I don’t remember exactly, but I think they were just shy of $11. Confessions of a shoe haul–I bought 3 other pairs and I mixed up all the prices. It’s an amazing deal BUT it isn’t the best deal ever…more on that soon. Alas, I finally curbed my craving and I’m especially happy that I saved some money while doing so.

A breakdown of my OOTD:

I’m so in love with these nude ankle strap sandals as they can be styled with anything, even ankle socks or knee socks for the cold months to come.

Check out some more photos of this OOTD below. I want to give a big thank you to Matthew Troyer for a great job on the photos. I enjoy working with people who are committed, creative, and have an eye for the vision. Stay connected with him on his site or social media.
