Do you know the one word that will change your year?

Happy New Year Resolution One Word Theme

Happy New Year!

One of my favorite phone apps (thank you Jesus for technology) is the YouVersion Bible. It makes it easy to toggle between different bible translations and offers tons of great devotionals and reading plans. In fact, the other day I started a pretty cool devotional called One Word That Will Change Your Life. Not only is it simple, it’s also only 4 days.

It was the perfect New Year’s resolution alternate for me. You see, I don’t like New Year’s resolutions because I find them to be personally silly. Whenever I know something needs to be implemented or put into action—I know it, I go for it, and I don’t need Jan 1st to define that. I rather keep a consistent and continuous mentality of growth, evolution, and progress than one day out of the year when I take the time out to reflect and think about it.

Maybe it’s the way my mind is set up but I make resolutions every single day. It can cause a lot of chaos inside my brain at times and can be confusing, yet I appreciate it because after one thing is tackled, on to the next!

This devotional, One Word That Will Change Your Life, was created by Jon Gordon, Dan Britton, and Jimmy Page, a super mini version of their book with the same title. They describe the devotional as…”ONE WORD helps you simplify your life by focusing on just ONE WORD for the entire year. The simplicity of discovering a word that God has for you makes it a catalyst for life-change. Clutter and complexity lead to procrastination and paralysis, while simplicity and focus lead to success and clarity. This 4-day devotional shows you how to cut through to the core of your intention for a one word vision for the year.”

It’s awesome!

God often speaks to me with one word for different seasons (like Garrison, Serve, Prayer, Guilt, and Character) but it didn’t cross my mind that He would give me one to carry me through 2015. Along with how God has been leading me into the new year, taking the time out to discover my God inspired one word theme has been amazing. The last few days of the year have been far greater than any in 2014. Dealing with the ups and downs of a 1 year marriage, being away from family for the longest period ever, and then having to deal with health issues, it has been very uplifting, reassuring, and comforting to know that God is using it ALL for a greater purpose and His glory. Never ever have I had so much expectation for the new year like I do now. This is the first time that another year isn’t just business as usual. Having one word to focus on and meditate on in 2015, with whatever it will bring, is exciting!

I encourage you to prayerfully seek the Lord for your one word theme this year and to check out the One Word That Will Change Your Life devotional as a great tool. God can use that one word mightily in your life, if you only seek Him.

Has He already been speaking to you? If resolutions are more of your thing, what are yours? Do tell by leaving a comment below!

Now to share my word………………………………………………………….REVIVE! 🙂

God bless!

Hey! I somehow came across your blog a couple of months ago and enjoy your writing! This is the first time I've gotten "one word" for the year...I asked for one right after midnight and it became so very clear to me what it was- daily surrender to Him, like all thoughout the day surrender to Him, like every area of my life surrender to Him : ) Anyway, I'm planning on writing a blog about this and wanted to send my readers your way to read this blog of yours...I think for people who may not know how to get a word or need a little bit of help, that YouVersion devotional would be a perfect start...and wanted to make sure you got the credit for the tip. Thank you for your writing and may God continue to bless you!

My sister encouraged me to check out that reading plan ob YouVersion. It really was a great one. My word for this year is enjoy. More specifically it is to enjoy without conditions! What a great challange. I can't wait to see what God does for you and through you this year!

It was great, wasn't it?! And I haven't seen ENJOY. That is a really really good one! :) Sweet times ahead. I'm looking forward to December so I can find out how everyone's one word of the year went! And also to reflect and see how mine evolved. It's been encouraging thus far but also challenging. I've had some moments where I'm like YES, REVIVED!...and then others where I'm like hmmm what happened? It feels more like death than life. But to God be the glory, I know He is doing something regardless of my being shortsighted at times.
