This is my second year giving a first fruits offering and I’m excited to invite you all to partner with me in my giving. I was unaware of such a thing up until last year and because I’m a giver by nature I was ecstatic to participate again for 2015.
Honor the Lord with your capital and sufficiency [from righteous labors] and with the firstfruits of all your income; So shall your storage places be filled with plenty, and your vats shall be overflowing with new wine. (Proverbs 3:9-10 AMP)
That one act in 2014 blessed me and my home for the rest of the year. So much so that my husband even got better at budgeting. I had learned to spend wisely whereas he was more of an impulsive buyer. His motto could have very well been “I got it, I want it, let’s get it.” However, as the year progressed I saw that we grew and found ourselves on the same page.
I believe God blessed me with such a husband though so he can bring me balance. I often deny myself stuff in order that I may help others and I’m blessed to have a provider in my husband as well as a man that enjoys to treat his wife. This allows me to greatly be about God’s business.
Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things. (Matthew 6:33 GNT)
This year, I was anxiously awaiting my first earnings. The only obstacle? I didn’t have consistent work and I didn’t know when I’d be able to give. I left it up to the Lord knowing that He knows my heart and trusting that He would provide. I knew that I wanted it to be in the month of January so I could start my year right. I prayed for God to make it possible and I prayed for a large sum. Then one day, as I anxiously prayed, God whispered into my heart…it isn’t about the quantity but the concern in your giving.
In the end, I wasn’t able to give the outrageous amount I had in mind but I made the January deadline just in time! I was so happy because I knew God wanted to test my belief. Could I believe He would honor my frstfruits gift no matter the amount? I think we undermine our efforts many a times. Blame it on our “inner voice” or the devil, but we can so easily snatch what is valid by saying it isn’t enough. We often do this in our works and even in our giving. Yet He continues to assert that with the right heart and obedience He honors our actions.
So how can you partner with me in being a blessing?
But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled along, came down to where he was; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity and sympathy [for him], (Luke 10:33 AMP)
Although normally the firsfruits would go to the church, I felt lead by the Lord to give my firstfruits offering to the charity Samaritan’s Feet.
Samaritan’s Feet shares hope with children in the U.S. and around the world by washing their feet, giving them a new pair of shoes, and helping them believe that their dreams can come true. Samaritan’s Feet believes that a new pair of shoes can be a tangible foundation of hope to a person in need.
Emmanuel “Manny” Ohonme, the founder, became the first person in his family to own a pair of shoes. He was inspired when missionaries came to Nigeria where he lived to teach basketball. One of the missionaries started a contest among them, the prize being a pair of shoes. Manny says, “…they could have said they was about to give us a car.” He won the contest and has lived to do the same for others. With the words imprinted on his heart, “The God of the Universe hasn’t forgot about you.”, he took the blessing God gave him that day and is multiplying it across the world.
Each shoe won’t last, but more importantly, the opportunity of planting seeds is forever.
I’m so excited because it’s easy for me to take for granted that I can buy shoes. That I actually have a designated shoe closet to store my many pairs. So in giving I want to help others and also be reminded that it’s not just about me. It’s not just about SWANKYCYN. This is something I will do every month and am looking forward to you and others joining me in raising money. Every month I’m giving up a $30 shoe purchase (on my budget not my husband’s lol) and need 12 people, one for each month, to match my giving. Maybe for you it’s makeup, or clothes, or going out. Join me in blessing others and reaping what grows out of that obedience. I’m praying for each of you!

Enjoy and God bless!
P.S. – In the future I’ll most likely write a post on firstfruits offering but if you aren’t familiar with it, it’s basically sacrificially offering your first to the Lord. Commonly it is your first earnings or paycheck of the year. But it can also be interpreted to be the first of your day, week, or month. Whereas tithing is 10%, firstfruits is the first of anything.
